What is fluoride used for in our toothpastes?
Today, fluoride is found in the majority of toothpastes, the maximum content of which is set by a legal prescription. It is reduced in toothpastes intended for children.

Fluoride is found naturally in water, soil, air, plants and living things. In the human body, it ensures the strength of bones and teeth.
Attention, it is common to confuse fluorine and fluoride! The first is a poisonous gas. The second is a totally harmless salt (from hydrofluoric acid) as absorbed in minimal quantities during toothbrushing.
Fluoride acts against dental caries thanks to its action at 3 levels:
• By reducing the acidity produced by bacteria in dental plaque
• By promoting good mineralization of the tooth
• By allowing the activation of the mineral defenses of the tooth during carious attacks
For optimal prevention of cavities, the use of a fluoride-enriched toothpaste is the best solution: during brushing, saliva is loaded with fluoride and then deposits it directly on the teeth. This local action provides better prophylaxis than the ingestion of fluoride in the form of supplements (tablets).
